cat shows

Ok, let me begin by saying i'm not a mad cat lady, but i'm curious about this.

I haven't got a cat yet, but am seriously considering purchasing a pedigree. Have any of you been to cat shows? If so, any chance you could tell me what happens at one? I've done some reading, but can't get a good idea from the point of view of a visually impaired person. Is it worth showing your cat if you aren't going to breed from it?

Cheers

Well, I'd say it depends on why you want the cat. Some cat owners will let you pet the cat, and others are just too finicky. Personally, I like cats as pets/family members. If you don't show the cat, you can always breed them. I know a woman who does that, and her husband is visually impaired.

Oh, the cat will be a family cat first and foremost, but i'd have a pedigree as you can kind of predict their personality a little more. I know it's not a given that a particular breed will behave in a particular way, but you have more of a chance of getting it right than if you pick up a regular moggie.

As i'm spending all the money on a pedigree, I just wondered whether it would be worthwhile showing it. I understand the value of showing if you then breed from the cat. But i'm not planning to become a breeder, so am not sure if it's worth showing or not.

Personally, I probably wouldn't want to work that hard. I'll be interested in what you decide and learn.
